The Presbyterian College Department of Music is home to 11 ensembles which are open to all members of the College community by audition. You don’t have to be a music major/minor or taking lessons to participate in an ensemble. Each ensemble has tailored musical opportunities for students based on their interests.

THE CHORAL PROGRAM – contact Dr. Porter Stokes  The choral program at Presbyterian College provides opportunities for all students at PC to be involved in Bella Voce (for women), Cantare! (for men), and the PC Choir (mixed voices, touring).





PCdec2014-8866ORCHESTRA AND STRING CHAMBER ORGANIZATIONS – contact Dr. Richard Thomas  Programs for string musicians at PC includes the PC Chamber Orchestra and various chamber ensembles – all under the purview of Dr. Richard Thomas.  Further, most strings player will participate in the annual Christmas at PC orchestra.




Winds and Percussions


WIND ENSEMBLE, AND INSTRUMENTAL CHAMBER ORGANIZATIONS – contact Dr. Richard House  Our programs for winds and percussion include the symphonic Wind Ensemble, the Pep Band, the Jazz Band, and chamber ensembles – all supervised by Dr. Richard House.  Members of the Wind Ensemble are also asked to participate in the winds and percussion section of the orchestra in the annual Christmas at PC performances.




 Musical Theater, Opera

WonderettersOPERA AND MUSICAL THEATER – Directed by Dr. Christian Elser, head of the voice area and the Executive Director of Greenville’s Glow Lyric Theatre, the PC Opera & Musical Theatre program produces one fully staged and orchestrated work of opera, operetta or musical theatre every year. Past productions have included Dido & Aeneas (Purcell), Albert Herring (Britten), The Impresario (Mozart), The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Finn), Godspell (Schwartz) and A Year with Frog & Toad (Reale). Enrollment in MUSC1603 is required for participation. Open to all students enrolled at PC. Contact Dr. Christian Elser.




Gary Hipp 1

Bagpipe lessons (for beginning, intermediate, and advanced students) and Bagpipe Ensemble are available to all students. Beginning students are started on a chanter and learn piping basics before proceeding to bagpipes.  Interested students should contact Mr. Gary Hipp.




HANDBELLS – contact Dr. Ron DavisBellsRinging  The PC Ringers, now into their second decade, are one of the finest handbell ensembles in the Southeast US.  Participants must be willing to ring in the ensemble for the entire year (Fall-Spring) and the ensemble rehearses three hours each week on a Monday-Wednesday-Friday at 3 p.m. schedule.  Dr. Ron Davis is the director and can arrange an interview and brief audition.
