Dr. Alphonso teaches courses in Introductory Sociology, Social Problems, Marriage and the Family, Sociology of Gender, Sociology of Aging and the Welfare State, Sociology of Work and Occupations, Children and Divorce, and the American Welfare State.

Dr. Alphonso’s research interests include cross-national perceptions of the welfare state; siblings, birth order, and gender roles; and intergenerational conflict. She recently completed serving as editor of The Southern Demographic News, the newsletter of the Southern Demographic Association.

Her personal interests include camping, hiking, reading, greyhounds, and baking.
