WHAT YOU’LL STUDY

You can learn the X’s and O’s of being a coach by earning a minor in athletic coaching. Eighteen hours are required to earn the minor.

You’ll earn 12 of those hours by successfully completing four required courses:

  • Coaching Principles
  • Organization/Admin of PHED/Athletic
  • Exercise/Sports Physiology
  • Basic Athletic Training

You can earn the remaining six hours by successfully completing six hours, or two three-hour courses, from any Physical Education elective that is at or above 200-level.

You’ll need to make at least a “C” in each course to earn a minor in athletic coaching, although you might be allowed to make one “D.” The Department of Physical Education may specify certain courses that you’ll need to make at least a “C” in, and you’ll need to make an overall average of “C” or better on all work presented for the minor.

You must take at least half of the hours required for the minor at PC. The Provost must approve any substitutions to the requirements of the athletic coaching minor prior to completion of the amended requirement.

Speak with your advisor or the chair of the physical education department about minimum grades allowed and any additional requirements for the athletic coaching minor.
