FASTFACTS

  • Technology affects nearly every aspect of our lives.
  • The field of computer science is constantly changing.
  • A computer science degree can prepare you for technical and non-technical careers.
  • According to CollegeChoice.Net, a computer science engineer is one of the highest-paying careers for college graduates.

What You’ll Study as a Computer Science Major

There are several paths you can take when you major in computer science. Your advisor will help you plan a schedule that matches what you want to do after you graduate.

After learning the basics, you can select courses like Cybersecurity, App Design, Web Design, 3D Modeling and Animation, Artificial Intelligence, and many more.

You combine core computer science courses with electives in the major tailored to your specific needs. Directed studies are also available to make your study specific to what you want to do after you graduate. Since computer science is based in math, science, and engineering, you’ll also have a couple of math classes to cover.

During your senior year, you’ll conduct original research or create a software project. The experience is your opportunity to apply what you’ve learned as you finish the requirements needed to earn your degree.
