  • 100% of PC students participate in either an internship, research or a study abroad program.
  • Some students have completed internships with SwaimBrown CPAs, Laurens County Healthcare System, Northwestern Mutual, Sodexo, Milliken & Company, BB&T Insurance, among many others.

What you’ll study as an Economics major

The economics major requires 38 hours in economics, focusing on core economic theory and electives. During your first two years, you’ll be introduced to topics in the major in courses like Principles of Financial Accounting, Computer Applications for Business and Principles of Macroeconomics.

As a junior and senior, you’ll delve further into the major in courses like Business Statistics and Career Preparation Tools. A math course as well as additional economics and business administration courses are also required for the economics major.

You can choose from electives based on your areas of interest.  Environmental Economics, International Economy and Entrepreneurship, and How Government Policy Impacts the Economy are three courses you could take for the economics major.

A senior capstone project requires in-depth reading in economics and a faculty-supervised research project.

Careers in Economics

Our professors recommend to students that they choose a major or a career field based on how much they love the subject rather than on how much money they’ll make. While PayScale says the starting salary for business majors is $72,000, please take this with a grain of salt since there are many factors that go into how much money you will make.

Employers partner with the college’s Career and Professional Development Office. You can take part in networking events, mock interviews, panel discussions, workshops and workplace visits.

A Presbyterian College liberal arts education provides you with problem-solving, critical thinking, and the skillsets employers look for today, regardless of your major. Ashley McCollum majored in economics at PC and has gone on to enjoy a successful career in digital media at NBC, BuzzFeed and Tasty.
