WHAT YOU’LL STUDY
You can earn a minor in English by successfully completing 18 hours of select English courses.
All students who earn an English minor are required to take Introduction to Composition and Introduction to Literature.
You’ll also select three hours from the following courses:
- Survey of British Literature I
- Survey of British Literature II
- Survey of American Literature I
- Survey of American Literature II
- Survey of African-American Literature
- Survey of World Literature in Translation
- Survey of World Literature in English
- Survey of World Cinema 3
You’ll select three hours from Literature courses as part of your English minor, and the final six hours must be chosen from a communications course, a creative writing course, an English course, or Media Studies 230.
You’ll need to make at least a “C” in each course to earn a minor in English, although you might be allowed to make one “D.” The Department of English may specify certain courses that you’ll need to make at least a “C” in, and you’ll need to make an overall average of “C” or better on all work presented for the minor.
You must take at least half of the hours required for the minor at PC. The Provost must approve any substitutions to the requirements of the English minor prior to completion of the amended requirement.
Speak with your advisor or the chair of the English department about minimum grades allowed and any additional requirements for the English minor.
