WHAT YOU’LL STUDY

You can earn a minor in physics by completing 17 to 19 hours of specified physics courses.

Eight hours are required. You can choose to select General Physics or Physics I with Calculus, or you can choose to select General Physics II or Physics II with Calculus.

After building a foundation for the minor with these required courses, you must select any one of the following courses:

  • Physics III with Calculus
  • Engineering Physics
  • Advanced Dynamics
  • Heat and Thermodynamics
  • Electricity and Magnetism I
  • Quantum Mechanics

To round out your minor you must select six to seven hours of electives in physics. Three of the hours may be an internship.

You’ll need to make at least a “C” in each course to earn a minor in physics, although you might be allowed to make one “D.” The Department of Physics and Computer Science may specify certain courses that you’ll need to make at least a “C” in, and you’ll need to make an overall average of “C” or better on all work presented for the minor.

You must take at least half of the hours required for the minor at PC. The Provost must approve any substitutions to the requirements of the physics minor before completion of the amended requirement.

Speak with your advisor or the chair of the physics and computer science department about the minimum grades allowed and any additional requirements for the physics minor.
