Leah Mayo ’15 – Outstanding Young Alumna Award

Attorney Leah Mayo ’15 is this year’s Outstanding Alumna.

She is the assistant district attorney with the Rome (Ga.) District Attorney’s Office and is admitted to practice in all Superior Courts in the State of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of Georgia. 

Mayo earned two Bachelor of Art degrees from PC; one in Political Science with a minor in Psychology and the other in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing. She graduated magna cum laude in both degrees and graduated with honors in English. She was recognized as an Exceptional Young Professional by the Rome-Floyd Chamber of Commerce, where she also participated in Leadership Rome. She also participated in Leadership Darlington through her high school alma mater, Darlington School.  

A former Quattlebaum Scholar at PC, Mayo organized and founded the first annual Women’s Leadership Conference. She was director of social enrichment for Alpha Delta Pi’s Eta Xi chapter; a member of Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society; Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society; and the Order of Omega, a Greek honor society; Pi Sigma Alpha, the Political Science Honor Society; Psi Chi, the Psychology honor society. 

After PC, she earned her Juris Doctorate from the Mercer University School of Law, where she won an individual award for Best Summation at a mock trial competition; earned the Walker P. Johnson Jr. Award for her litigation skills, ethics, and professionalism; and was selected Most Outstanding Senior of her law school class. She has also received the CALI Award for Excellence in Statutory Law, the CALI Award for Excellence in Tort Law, and the Lauren Giddings Scholarship. 

In addition to her love of the courtroom, Leah is very involved in her community. She serves as president of the Rome Area Council for the Arts and on the Alumni Council for Darlington School. She volunteers at a local high school, leading sessions for high school students on college and scholarship applications, interviews, resume building, and scholarship competitions.
