SUMMARY:Charles Chadwell Special Education Institute: The Power of Play for ALL led by Jed Dearybury
DESCRIPTION:Participants will be immersed in a half day of meaningful\, relevant\, and fun professional development workshop focused on the ideals of the Neuroscience of Play in Learning with the main goal of learning best practice and pedagogical strategies that can be implemented in their learning spaces. The work encompasses ALL educators both general and special education as the work of play is for everyone: student\, teacher\, admin\, regardless of ability. This event is free and open to the public. Breakfast will be provided from 8:30am to 9am.\n\n\nRegistration is required for seating capacity purposes: Register Now\n\n\nFor questions about this event\, please contact Dr. Julia Wilkins at jwilkins@presby.edu\n\n\n\n\nAbout Charles Chadwell Special Education Institute\n\nThe Charles H. Chadwell Endowment for Special Education was established at PC in 1984 by Francis E. Cothran and his wife\, Jean Syminton Cothran. Part of the endowment provides seminars\, lectures\, and workshops led by recognized authorities in fields related to special education. These events promote a better understanding of the circumstances faced by individuals with disabilities and their families.\n\n\nAbout Jed Dearybury\n\nJed Dearybury embarked on his education journey in 2001. His dedication earned him numerous accolades\, including recognition as Male Leader of the Year in GQ Magazine and as a South Carolina honoree of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching. As a National Board Certified Early Childhood Generalist\, he was also named a top 5 finalist for South Carolina Teacher of the Year and the first-ever Milken Fellow for the state. Since transitioning from the 2nd-grade classroom in 2015\, Jed has become a leader in professional development worldwide. He shares his expertise in early childhood education\, children’s literature\, creativity\, and fine arts through teaching and higher education. In 2019\, he founded his own education consulting business\, mrdearybury.com LLC\, serving as Director of Creativity and Innovation. Jed is also an author and illustrator\, having published several books including “The Playful Classroom\,” “Courageous Classroom\,” and “The Playful Life.” His debut children’s book\, The Rainbow Tree published with GWG Press in June of 2025.
