Sam and Mary Waters – President’s Society
Sam ’64 and Mary Waters have advanced to the President’s Society of the William Plumer Jacobs Society this year. Throughout the years, the Waters have generously given to the Scotsman Club Scholarship Fund, the Presbyterian College ROTC Scholarship, the Armed Forces Memorial and the PC Scholarship Fund.
The Waters are committed to education and have also given generously to the Dr. J. Phillip Olmert Scholarship Fund, which was established in 1984 in memory of Dr. J. Phillip Olmert. The scholarship is intended for a rising senior seeking a career in medicine.
The Waters have also given to the Edouard and Aymee Patte Scholarship Fund. This scholarship was established in 1990 by former choir members for students with a promise of pursuing a vocation in church music.
In 2005, the Samuel C. Waters Scholarship was established. In 2017, Sam and Mary repurposed their endowment to become the Samuel C. Waters Lecture Series Endowment to provide funds for important lectures on politics and current events through the political science department.
Sam earned a degree in history from PC. He went on to the University of South Carolina School of Law and earned his law degree. He is an attorney at the Finkel Firm in Columbia and currently serves on the Presbyterian College Board of Trustees.
Mary earned her B.A. in art studio from the University of South Carolina, as well as her master’s and Ph.D. She is an affiliate faculty member in the Women’s and Gender Studies Program and in the Department of Political Science.
