John McIntosh ’61

John W. McIntosh’s ’61 legacy as one of South Carolina’s most experienced trial lawyers is secure.

In 2016, he retired as chief deputy attorney general after 18 years of service to three different attorney generals and more than 20 years total service to the office of attorney general. Including his time as assistant public defender for Richland County and as chief deputy solicitor for the Fifth Judicial Circuit, McIntosh has tried more than 300 criminal cases over a stellar 50-year career.

“It has been my honor and privilege to work with one of the most experienced and respected prosecutors in the state,” said SC attorney general Alan Wilson at the announcement of McIntosh’s retirement. “John’s legal knowledge is second to none and to work with him and learn from him has been invaluable to me as attorney general.”

Now his legacy as one of Presbyterian College’s most generous benefactors is secure as well. A tremendously generous planned gift to the College will endow the John W. McIntosh ’61 and Family Endowed Scholarship for first-generation college students.
