Steve and Louise Slater

As a person who loves young people, has a knowledge of psychology and years of evaluating organizational leadership and culture, Louise Slater found a way to combine those interests professionally. As the mother of a Presbyterian College alumnus,  she found a way to bring all her skills and interests to PC.

Slater is a former owner of The Price Group,  an educational consulting practice based in Columbia that she acquired with a friend and colleague. She is also currently the secretary of the PC Board of Trustees and chair of its resource development committee.

Earlier this year, she established the Philip T. Bell ’19 Endowed Scholarship in honor of her son, Philip, who inspired his mother to create a scholarship fund for first-generation and minority students. She also supports the PC’s first-generation programs.

Slater is still actively involved in her family businesses, as chair of the board of Consolidate Systems Inc., and as a board member of Bonitz Inc. She is the former board chair of Glenforest School, a private school in Columbia that serves children with learning differences.

She is a professional member of the Independent Educational Consultants  Association and former chair of the IECA’s learning differences committee.  In 2009, she earned the organization’s Irv Katz Award for her commitment to children and education, particularly for her volunteer work as a founder of Friends of Juvenile Justice, a group that advocates for and provides resources to the SC  Department of Juvenile Justice.

Slater is a certified educational planner and parent coach and has completed level one certification as an ARISE interventionist to support recovery from substance abuse and mental health issues. She is also a member of the Young  Adult Transition Association.

She has three sons, a stepdaughter, and two grandchildren. She and her husband, Steve, also have two dogs, Roxy and Chloe.
