CHIN 101 - CHIN 102 Introductory Chinese
Learners functioning within stage 1 and stage 2 of ICCLE (International Curriculum for Chinese Language Education) should achieve the following objectives:
- Understand basic language materials related to common daily settings.
- Can repeat, recite and reproduce words;
- produce simple sententences structures, provide simple descriptions,and exchange some basic information.
- Begin to develop confidence and interest in learning the Chinese language.
- Have some preliminary knowledge of learning strategies, communicativestrategies, resource strategies and interdisciplinary strategies used in guided situations.
- Gain introductory Chinese cultural knowledge and acquire preliminary cross-cultural awareness and international perspectives.
CHIN 201 - CHIN202 Elementary Chinese
Learners functioning within stage 3 of ICCLE should achieve the following objectives:
- Understand and learn basic language related to daily settings.
- Can use more complex grammatical structures and sentence patterns tocommunicate on familiar topics through interaction and description.
- Can compose brief passages.
- Demonstrate confidence and interest in learning Chinese language.
- Have some preliminary knowledge of learning strategies, communicative strategies, resource strategies and interdisciplinary strategies used in guided situations.
- Gain introductory Chinese cultural knowledge and acquire preliminarycross-cultural awareness and international perspectives.
CHIN 301 - CHIN 302 Intermediate Chinese
Learners functioning within stage 4 of ICCLE should achieve the following
objectives:
- Understand language materials within sectors of social life.
- Can produce more correct sentences on familiar topics in description, explanation or comparison.
- Can compose simple paragraphs or connect basic passages.
- Have demonstrated confidence and interest in learning Chinese language.
- Have mastered some knowledge of learning strategies, communicativestrategies, resource strategies and interdisciplinary strategies.
- Gain introductory Chinese cultural knowledge and acquire preliminarycross-cultural awareness and international perspectives.
CHIN 401- CHIN 402 Advanced Chinese
Learners functioning within Stage 5 of ICCLE can should achieve the following objectives:
- Understand a wide range of topics,
- Produce correct sentences, write in paragraphs, create cohesive discourse,and express themselves fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions.
- Have demonstrated confidence and a strong interest in learning the Chinese language.
- Have mastered knowledge with learning strategies, communicative strategies, resource strategies and interdisciplinary strategies.
- Have gained extensive Chinese cultural knowledge, and acquired preliminarycross-cultural awareness and international perspectives.
