Rev. Dr. Buz Wilcoxon
Lassiter Chaplain & Dean of Spiritual LifeThe Rev. Dr. Buz Wilcoxon ’05 serves as Presbyterian College’s first Marianne and E.G. Lassiter Chaplain and Dean of Spiritual Life, returning to his alma mater where he distinguished himself as an exemplary student leader.
As a PC undergraduate, Wilcoxon graduated as valedictorian and Outstanding Senior in 2005. His exceptional academic and service record earned him the Lewis S. Hay Religion Award, the Jack and Jane Presseau Service Award, and recognition as Outstanding Senior in Religion and Philosophy.
Dr. Wilcoxon’s distinguished academic journey continued at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, where he earned his Master of Divinity (2008) and Doctor of Ministry degrees. As a Columbia Scholar, he received numerous prestigious awards including the Florrie Wilkes Sanders Prize in Theology, the Anna Whitner Memorial Fellowship, the Wilds Book Prize, the Lyman and Myki Mobley Prize in Worship, and the George and Sally Telford Award.
Ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (USA) in 2008, Dr. Wilcoxon brings rich pastoral experience to his role. He served as Associate Pastor at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Greenville, SC, and as Senior Pastor at Spring Hill Presbyterian Church in Mobile, AL.
Beyond parish ministry, Dr. Wilcoxon has been a dedicated servant to the broader church and theological education. He serves on the Columbia Theological Seminary Board of Trustees and previously served as a board member of the Christus Theological Institute at Spring Hill College. His denominational leadership includes service on numerous committees within Foothills Presbytery, the Presbytery of South Alabama, the Synod of Living Waters, and the PC(USA).
A gifted writer and liturgist, Dr. Wilcoxon has contributed as a writer, columnist, and hymn writer for Call to Worship, the PC(USA)’s liturgical publication. He also served on the editorial review board for the Book of Common Worship.
In his role at Presbyterian College, Dr. Wilcoxon combines his deep theological training, pastoral experience, and commitment to Presbyterian tradition to guide the spiritual life of the campus community. He and his wife, Ryann ’04, met at Presbyterian College and have two children.
