Carla Alphonso, Ph.D.

Dr. Alphonso teaches courses in Introductory Sociology, Criminology, Medical Sociology, Sociology of Aging, Marriage and the Family, and World Population Issues, among others.

Dr. Alphonso’s research interests include the gender division of household labor, generational perceptions of health care and other social issues, and family demography. Her research has appeared in the Journal of Comparative Family Studies, and she has recently contributed to the Encyclopedia of Family Studies on topics including covenant marriage, families in middle life, Generation X, and propinquity. She serves as a reviewer for the journals Sex Roles, Social Inclusion, and SAGE Open.

In addition to service on many College committees, Dr. Alphonso regularly volunteers with the Boy Scouts of America and serves as an elementary school grade catechist at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church. Her personal interests include camping, hiking, reading, watching sports, and spending time with her family.
