Summary
Dr. Monica Keen is a 38-year veteran in Occupational Therapy. She has worked in the areas of Mental Health, Acute Care, and Skilled Nursing Facilities; however, she found her passion in School-Based OT where she worked and retired in 2022 after 25 years of service in the public schools. She was the owner and operator of Developing Abilities Children’s Therapy Services, providing in-home pediatric therapy services in the rural areas of Berkeley County. During her clinical career, she was an adjunct instructor for MUSC, the University of St. Augustine, Presbyterian College (PC), and Baylor University where she still currently adjuncts. She transitioned into full-time academia in June 2022 when she accepted the position of Doctoral Capstone Coordinator at PC, teaching the Doctoral Capstone Classes as well as the Mental Health class. In 2023 she accepted the Director Position at PC where she continues to teach Mental Health and the OT Practice: Community class. Currently, she is the President of the South Carolina Occupational Therapy Association (SCOTA).
Research or Areas of Specialty
Dr. Keen has a passion for Mental Health, her research focuses on school-aged mental health in a pre- and post-Covid world. She has had the privilege to speak on this topic for webinars/continuing education, podcasts, conferences, and consortiums.
