I am the husband of a 9th Grade English Teacher of more than 20 years, and the father of a teenage daughter who is a budding actress, competitive dancer, and accomplished viola player. Whether 120 feet below the water SCUBA diving with them, or 3,000 feet up a mountain hiking trails with them and our black lab, Jordan, we love our time outdoors and together. I am a retired law enforcement officer, and I finished out my career as the supervisor of a fire and arson investigation unit. I held certifications and expert qualifications as a burglary investigator, auto theft investigator, and fire investigator before retiring. My academic education includes a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice, a Bachelors of Science in Psychology, a Masters in Criminal Justice, and a Doctorate in Criminal Justice. I come to Presbyterian College by way of Limestone University where I served as the Program Coordinator and Associate Professor of Criminal Justice, an instructor in the Honors College, and in a variety of administrative roles on campus.

My doctoral research was to evaluate the efficacy of special treatment courts in the United States, namely the Veterans Treatment Courts System, through the lens of the participant. Specifically, I sought to determine what aspects of court-mandated treatment for justice-involved veterans were thought to be unnecessary as seen by the veteran, but were consistently applied because they had been effective in other special treatment court forums. More recently, I have refocused my research efforts to identifying traits of criminal self-efficacy and approaches to correct deviant behavior arising from those.
