Research or Areas of Specialty
I started my research career in pharmacokinetics, exploring how antiviral and anticancer drugs move through the body and how we can measure them with precision. From there, I transitioned into compatibility studies—evaluating how drug admixtures behave in critical care settings. That work involved students, led to a number of publications, and earned professional recognition. These days, my scholarship focuses on how we teach and how students learn. I’m especially interested in alternative grading systems like specifications grading and how they can support autonomy, motivation, and critical thinking. Much of my work examines how reflection, feedback, and metacognition help students take ownership of their learning—not just perform well in class, but grow into self-directed professionals. I love asking practical questions, testing new ideas in the classroom, and building evidence for what actually helps students thrive.
