About Mathew Tuk
Mathew Tuk currently serves as the Director of the Laurens County Academy of Music and as the Instructor of Brass at Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. A dedicated educator and performer, he holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a Master’s Degree in Tuba Performance from Louisiana State University, where he studied under Dr. Joe Skillen and Dr. Charles Goodman. Mathew began his professional teaching career as the Director of Bands at Central High School in Baton Rouge, LA, leading a comprehensive band program that consistently earned Superior ratings at marching and concert festivals. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Tuba Performance with a minor in conducting at the University of South Carolina, under the direction of Dr. Ronald Davis and Dr. Cormac Cannon.
An active freelance musician, Mathew regularly performs with professional ensembles across South Carolina, including the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, South Carolina Philharmonic, Aiken Symphony Orchestra, and North Charleston Pops Orchestra, as well as various chamber
groups. He has achieved success as both a soloist and chamber musician in multiple International Tuba and Euphonium Association competitions. Mathew is also a member and recording artist with the Backburner Tuba and Euphonium Collective, the nation’s premier large tuba-euphonium ensemble, featuring professional musicians and 20 collegiate professors from across the U.S.
In addition to performing, he maintains an active private studio, teaching students from the primary through collegiate levels
