Fraternity & Sorority Life
Fraternities and sororities have a long history at PC, dating back to 1890, and are among the oldest chapters in the country. PC’s fraternities enjoy the benefits of membership in the North-American Interfraternity Conference and National Pan-Hellenic Council (Omega Psi Phi), and the sororities flourish from the guidance obtained by membership in the National Panhellenic Conference.

PC’s fraternities and sororities support the notions of scholarship, service, social growth and leadership, as well as the ideal of attaining true brotherhood and sisterhood. Greek members interact through weekly chapter meetings, philanthropy and community service projects, social events, and other activities.
Five Pillars of Greek Life
Each of our fraternities and sororities strives to uphold the five pillars of Greek Life at PC: leadership, scholarship, service, community, and social responsibility.
Fraternity and sorority members are offered a variety of leadership opportunities and programs in which they can develop skills like time management, event planning, and communication. Members hold many leadership positions within their chapters or in major student organizations on campus.
The most important aspect of fraternity and sorority membership is scholarship. In order to challenge their members to excel academically, each fraternity and sorority has established educational programming. To be initiated as a member, you must obtain grade requirements, which vary between each sorority and fraternity. However, the minimum grade point average for any fraternity is a 2.0.
PC’s sororities and fraternities strive to embody our motto: “While We Live, We Serve.” Each organization completes service projects benefiting a variety of charities, including Ronald McDonald House Charities, Laurens County Hospice Center, and the USO. The Interfraternity Council’s philanthropic cause is the Bindy’s Buddy Walk. The Panhellenic Council’s philanthropic cause is the Circle of Sisterhood Foundation.
Joining a fraternity or sorority means becoming part of a family. Brothers and Sisters provide a “home away from home” for PC students that offers support and guidance.
Through a variety of events, there are opportunities to meet and interact with members of fraternities and sororities and other campus organizations. Some of the ways to balance scholarship with fun are social events with other chapters, formal dinner dances, Greek Week, and intramural sports.

Standards of Excellence
Presbyterian College is fully committed to the highest quality of student experience for each of its students, with particular emphasis on upholding the five pillars for all Greek Students. The Standards of Excellence, or SOE, provides an opportunity for each organization to compare itself to specific standards, to highlight activities and programs, and to receive recognition for outstanding accomplishments that were achieved within the past year. These standards will also provide the opportunity for chapters to be eligible for additional recognition through awards. Each recognized fraternity and sorority must complete the SOE in order to maintain its status as a recognized organization in good standing at Presbyterian College.

Presbyterian College Statement on Fraternity & Sorority Life
Founded upon Christian ideals and inspired to support scholarship, community service, and the notions of wholesome brotherhood and sisterhood, Presbyterian College embraces Greek-letter organizations as an important part of the campus community. The institution recognizes that fraternity and sorority life offers unique opportunities for leadership as well as social and moral development. Sororities and fraternities share responsibility with the College for facilitating the learning process for students and for cultivating an environment that enriches the campus and the educational experience. While recognizing that social interaction is a major component of fraternity and sorority life, the College holds its Greek-letter organizations to the Christian ideals upon which they were founded and declines to endorse any fraternity or sorority that wishes to function merely as a “social club.”
