Hello Fellow Blue Hose Women!

Congratulations on your decision to attend PC, and welcome to the PC family! One of the many ways to become involved on campus is to join the Greek community. If you decide to go through the recruitment process, you could potentially become affiliated with one of the largest student organizations on campus. Membership in a sorority can open doors to many great opportunities and experiences. We are honored to present the Greek community to you, and are here to assist you throughout the recruitment process.

Registering for Recruitment

It is important to remember that participation in any pre-recruitment event does not require you to participate in recruitment, and that going through the recruitment process does not require you to join a sorority. These events will simply allow you to get to know the women on campus and to better understand the fraternity and sorority system at PC. Registration for Fall 2015 Recruitment will begin May 1st. There is a $50 registration fee, which is non-refundable. Please know, registering for recruitment does not obligate you to go through recruitment.

Register for Sorority Recruitment!

A Sorority Recruitment Information Meeting will be on Wednesday, August 26th at 5:30pm in Edmunds Hall.

Sorority Recruitment will be September 3rd through September 6th, 2015. The online registration form and fee must be submitted by Tuesday, September 1st, 2015, at midnight in order to participate in sorority recruitment. Please note that there will be mandatory orientation sessions for recruitment on Tuesday, September 1st, 2015 at both 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. at a location to be announced. You only need to attend one of these sessions and if you are unable to attend either of these meetings, please feel free to email me to set up an alternative plan.

Recruitment Counselors

If you choose to participate in the recruitment process, a recruitment counselor, also known as a Pi Chi, will be assigned to you and a small group of other Potential New Members. Pi Chi’s are current members of the sororities on campus who temporarily disaffiliate from their chapters to help you find the perfect fit. These women are carefully selected and trained for their role as your listener, role model, fashion coordinator, confidant, and friend. Pi Chi’s are able to answer any questions and discuss all aspects of Greek life and campus life with an unbiased opinion. The Pi Chi’s will reveal their affiliation and rejoin their sisters on Bid Day. Please do not pressure the Pi Chi’s to reveal their affiliations before Bid Day. These women are here to help you!

Recommendations for Sorority Recruitment

A Recommendation/Reference form can serve as a Potential New Member’s (PNM) introduction to a sorority, so their members can get to know the PNM in advance of formal recruitment in the fall. These official forms, which are unique to each individual sorority, are provided by the national organization for their alumnae members to fill out on behalf of PNMs. Please note that each sorority has its own policy as to whether or not they require a recommendation/reference and that the PC Panhellenic does NOT have access to individual sorority Recommendation/Reference forms. Only a sorority alumna or potentially a collegiate member of a sorority can write a recommendation to her sorority. It is also recommended that the alumna use her sorority’s official recommendation form, which can usually be found on sorority’s national website or in the sorority’s national magazine.

When seeking letters of recommendation for recruitment, PNMs only need letters for those National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sororities currently recognized at PC. They are: Alpha Delta Pi, Sigma Sigma Sigma, and Zeta Tau Alpha.

If a PNM asks a sorority alumna or collegian to write her a recommendation or if an alumna or collegian offers to write her one, it is customary to provide the individual writing the recommendation with a professional headshot (4×6), an unofficial copy of your academic transcript, a social resume, and an addressed, stamped envelope. A thank you letter is also appropriate after the fact.

If a PNM cannot find a recommendation/reference for each or any of the 3 NPC sororities recognized at PC, she should not worry! Recommendations/References are like extra credit—it’s great if you can get them, but they are not required by all chapters.

We strongly suggest that all recommendations/references be mailed to the chapters by August 22nd to ensure they arrive and are reviewed prior to the start of Recruitment.

Potential New Member Bill of Rights

If you participate in recruitment, listed below are your rights as a potential new member. The Potential New Member Bill of Rights was established by the National Panhellenic Conference.

  • The right to be treated as an individual
  • The right to be fully informed about the recruitment process
  • The right to ask questions and receive true and objective answers from recruitment counselors and members
  • The right to be treated with respect
  • The right to be treated as a capable and mature person without being patronized
  • The right to ask how and why and receive straight answers
  • The right to have and express opinions to recruitment counselors
  • The right to have inviolable confidentiality when sharing information with recruitment counselors
  • The right to make informed choices without undue pressure from others
  • The right to be fully informed about the binding agreements implicit in the membership acceptance signing
  • The right to make one’s own choice and decision and accept full responsibility for the results of that decision
  • The right to have a positive, safe, and enriching recruitment and new member experience
