Class of 2009

Christina Armistead is applying for a visa to teach English in Seoul, Korea, for a year or so after graduation while preparing for graduate school, possibly in film/media/cultural studies, comparative literature, or English. While waiting on her visa, Christina is currently “substitute teaching and tutoring at Seoul Foreign School, an institution for expat kids.” She received an MA in English from the University of Georgia in Athens and is currently an English Instructor at Louisiana State University.

From July 2011 to July 2014, Mary Beth Carlson (minor) worked as an English teacher with English Language Institute/China (ELIC) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Currently, she works as a swim-lesson instructor at Carolina Aquatics.

In August 2009, Carly Eargle (minor) began work at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. Upon graduation as a doctor of podiatric medicine, she plans to join the practice of Columbia Foot Clinic.

Alison Graham began graduate work in psychology at Clemson University in Fall 2009.

In Fall 2009, Sarah Hanlin began graduate work in psychology at The Citadel.

Amanda Holliday Berry completed her M.S. in speech-language pathology at Western Carolina University in 2011. Currently, she works as a speech-language pathologist in Daleville City Schools in Alabama.

After graduation, Charlie Johnson wrote for The Town Report in Westchester County, NY. He received a Paralegal Certificate from Duke University in 2013 and is currently a paralegal with Springs Creative Products Group in Rock Hill, SC. In Fall 2015, Charlie will begin studies at the UNC Chapel Hill School of Law; his focus will be on immigration law.

Blake Masters (minor) works as an operating room support technician with Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

Carolyn Negley is an Epic Certified Clinical Consultant and Programmer at Negley, Ott, & Associates.

Mitchell Odom began work at the Charleston School of Law in 2009.

In 2009, Becca Owens began graduate work at Richmond, The American International University in London, England.

In 2011, Daniel Peeler received his Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS) from the University of South Carolina; after graduation, he worked as the reference librarian at Vorhees College in Denmark, SC. In April 2019, Daniel began a dual-role position with Ligonier Ministries in Sanford, FL: he will be a librarian for their college (Reformation Bible College) and a content curator for the ministry as a whole.

Mandy Pittman (minor) graduated from  to the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2012.

Andrew Roberts (minor) won the Auburn University Graduate Teaching Assistant Award in the College of Liberal Arts for demonstrating excellence in teaching for 2013-2014; he is pursuing a PhD in Psychology. He also received a research fellowship to work at the Army Research Institute at Ft. Benning, which is part of the Research Consortium Fellowship Program, while he finishes his doctorate.

In 2010, Nichole Rowe Grant completed her Master of Arts in Teaching (English) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She teaches at Florence Chapel Middle School in Duncan, SC.

Jacob Sloan (minor) is a programmer analyst at American Credit Acceptance.

In 2011, Lea Smith received her MAT from Converse College.

In August 2011, Tom Stillerman received his  master’s degree in English from the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, GA, and began teaching sixth-grade language arts at Newton County Theme School in Covington, GA.

Beginning January 2010, Joseph Taber will attend Union Theological Seminary in Virginia.

After graduation, Dustin Waters moved to Binghamton, NY, where he worked for The Research Foundation at SUNY Binghamton as a writing assistant and lab technician. He returned to South Carolina in June 2013 to intern at Charleston Magazine. After his internship, Dustin served as a writing tutor for cadets at The Citadel. In February 2014, he took a job as the copy editor for The Moultrie News.

Cody Whetsel (minor) taught math and physics at Lee Academy in Bishopville, SC. In fall 2011, he started law school at the University of Georgia School of Law in Athens. He works as a legal clerk at the Law Offices of David W. Griffeth, Esq., in Athens.

Class of 2008

After teaching English for a year to preschoolers in Hong Kong, Katy Bagley Barrett began an M.A. in History at UNC-Charlotte (completed in 2011). She worked as a compliance analyst at Universal Health Care in St. Petersburg, FL, and also as a Marketing Communications Generalist at Raymond James Financial, Inc., in St. Petersburg. Currently, she is the Public Communications Coordinator at Raymond James Financial.

Laura Coker Bussert (minor) is a human resources generalist over the technical operations area in Duluth, GA, for Charter Communications.

Dr. Vidya Fleetwood (minor) studied at the Medical University of South Carolina and is currently a general surgery resident at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL.

Rachel Guy teaches first grade at a Catholic school in Newark, Delaware, and will finish her Master of Education in December 2010.

Jarren Johnson is the Assistant Store Director at Bi-Lo in Clinton, SC.

Gwen Roberson Byrd accepted a position at Presbyterian College as an Admissions Counselor, beginning in summer 2008, and then received an M.Ed. from Columbia College in 2010. In 2012, she became the Admission Director at the PC School of Pharmacy. She took an appointment in 2013 at the University of West Florida as the Assistant Director of Recruitment, and in 2014 she became the Associate Director. In 2015, she’ll begin the Ed.D program in Diversity Studies at the University of West Florida.

Luke Rodgers joined the Myachi team full-time in Summer 2008, and he currently works at FAO Schwarz in New York City. The New York Times wrote an article about Luke and his co-workers. If you check out the accompanying slide show, you can see Luke in slides 5, 6, and 9.

In May 2014, Marcia Rubino Godfrey received her Master of Public Affairs from Western Carolina University.

Lindsey Sink Dasher (minor) earned her law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2011. Currently, she is an attorney with Arnold & Smith, PLLC, in Charlotte, NC.

From 2008-2009, Jeremy White taught high school math in Athens, Georgia. In Fall 2010, he began the Ph.D. program in mathematics at Clemson University; he earned his M.S. in Mathematical Sciences in May 2012 and has begun the coursework for his Ph.D. In 2014, Jeremy began a Technical Services position with Epic in Madison, WI.

After graduation, Jessica Ziegler worked as a VISTA Program Assistant with the PENCIL Foundation. In 2011, she received her M.Ed. in International Education Policy & Management at Vanderbilt University. She currently works as a Research Analyst III at Vanderbilt Peabody College.

Class of 2007

Val Alessandrini Huff (minor) received an MS in Counseling from the University of South Carolina. Currently, she is the Director of Digital Marketing & Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) for Hughes Media in Atlanta.

Currently, Elisabeth Behringer Huebner (creative writing minor) works in Frankfurt, Germany, as the Manager of PR & Communications for Worldhotels, an independent hotel group. Elisabeth says, “As I do write every day as part of my position, I would say I get to use my Creative Writing degree quite a lot.”

Laura Cline completed her Master of Arts in English at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. In August 2010, she began teaching English and AP English at Grace Christian Academy in Knoxville. In 2014, she began a tenure-track position at Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville.

Ashley Erwin has published a novel, A Ballad Concerning Black Betty, or The Retelling of a Man Killer and Her Machete, as well as some short stories: “Willard Tell” at Shotgun Honey and “’54” at Cheap Pop.

Emily Davenport Fieg has an internship with a film/tv company in Atlanta, where she is involved in shooting some pilot episodes (to air on cable) and setting up a company web page.

Brittany Flowe Reese graduated cum laude from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University in 2010, and she passed the Bar Exam in summer 2010. She then worked as a staff attorney with Bibb County Superior Court in Macon, GA. In fall 2011, Brittany joined the law firm of Alston & Bird, LLP, in Atlanta, GA. In 2014, she accepted a position as an assistant United States attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, where she will be working in the civil division. In November 2014, Brittany joined Presbyterian College’s Board of Trustees and will serve as the new Alumni Association Representative.

In 2007, Mary Giddings Dunlap took a position as a Communications Specialist with Fluor Daniel in Greenville. She says, “The job basically entails me doing the layout and design (AND WRITING) for the employee publication each month! I will be the assistant to the Editor of the publication, meanwhile traveling to do interviews with various employees of the company.” In 2015, Mary became the Marketing Lead at Fluor.

In June 2009, Jacky Gypin went back to Italy, where she taught for a month at an English language summer camp. In July, she headed to Greece, where she worked as an au pair for a six-year-old boy. Jacky worked at an English Language School, called California School of Languages, in Santa Monica as the housing and admissions coordinator. In her spare time, she also became a full blown TV star, beginning with The Ellen DeGeneres Show.  Jacky’s also been seen in the audiences of American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, and Jimmy Kimmel Live! Jacky taught English/ESL at at YBM Preschool Academy in South Korea until 2015. After a short stay in the States, Jacky returns to Korea in August 2015 to begin teaching at Apguijeong 1 PSA.

Ashley Hutto works for a marketing firm in Columbia, SC; she’s also working on a business degree.

Justin Lowman completed a Master of Arts in Teaching in secondary school English education at Converse College (Spring 2009). In January 2010, he began teaching part-time at Blue Ridge High School in Greer, SC, and was in August 2010 hired on full-time. He teaches English courses, including journalism and creative writing.

In Fall 2008, Andy Mayo, who never can do one major at a time, will begin a dual graduate program in law and theological studies at Emory University.

From 2007 until 2010, Ryan Naus worked as a staff writer with The Grant County News in Williamstown, Kentucky. He has worked with Gander Mountain in a variety of positions, currently as Hardlines Manager in Charleston, SC.

Richard Parmer completed his master’s degree at East Tennessee State University in 2010. In Fall 2010, he will begin a Ph.D. at the University of Kentucky.

After receiving a master’s in journalism from the Annenberg School of Communications at USC in Los Angeles, Amanda Rossie began a PhD in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Ohio State University in Fall 2009. She’s been awarded two fellowships, one from the Women’s Studies department and one from the Graduate School. In Fall 2009, her essay, “Looking to the Margins: The ‘Outsider Within’ Journalistic Fiction,” was published in the first volume of The IJPC Journal (Image of the Journalist in Popular Culture). Amanda received her PhD from Ohio State in May 2014. In Fall 2014, Amanda joins the Women’s & Gender Studies department as a Visiting Assistant Professor at The College of New Jersey in Ewing Township, NJ. In January 2015, Amanda returned to PC to give a talk about her journey from PC to USC Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism to Ohio State University to teaching WGST at the College of New Jersey. In January 2015, Amanda returned to PC to give a talk about her journey from PC to the Annenberg School to Ohio State  to teaching at the College of New Jersey.

Sarah Seegars Shuster has taken a job at Clear Channel Radio in sales for WCOS 97.5, the country station in Columbia, SC, where she’s already written several commercials.

Kelly Sisson Crooks currently works as a technical writer at Fluor Corporation.

After graduation, Liz Soult Bennett worked at Swansea High School in Swansea, SC, where she taught 10th and 11th grade basic English; she also taught at the Livingston Christian Academy in North, SC. Liz worked as a missionary in Belem, Brazil, where she taught at Amazon Valley Academy and the Network of International Christian Schools. In 2015, she began teaching American Literature at Southside Christian School in Simpsonville, SC.

In 2009, Polly Spangler Reid completed her MA in English at Clemson University, and in May 2014 she received her doctorate from the University of Georgia in Athens. She received the University of Georgia’s Excellence in Research Award (Humanities and the Arts) from the UGA Graduate School in 2015. In August 2014, she began teaching in the writing program at the University of Denver. Her article, “Specters of Smith: Adam Smith’s ‘Invisible Hand’ and Charles Dickens’s Little Dorrit,” was published in Lit: Literature Interpretation Theory 25.4 (2014).

Ansley Stewart began in Fall 2011 a master’s program in Health and Medical Journalism at the University of Georgia in Athens and currently works for UGA’s Music Business program.

In 2011, Taryn Taylor Humphries completed her master’s in Literary Study at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga. In February 2010, at the 105th meeting of the Tennessee Philological Association in Cleveland, TN, Taryn presented her first conference paper on Roald Dahl entitled “‘She Decided She Wanted Something More Interesting’: Empowerment and Forbidden Topics For Children in Roald Dahl’s Matilda, The Twits, and George’s Marvelous Medicine.” In October 2010, she presented her paper on “Second Wave Princesses: Disney’s Princess Discourse in Movies and Mass Marketing” at the conference of the Popular Culture Association of the South in Savannah, GA. In August 2011, Taryn began teaching 11th- and 12th-grade English at Silverdale Baptist Academy in Chattanooga, TN.

Noel Wall Picou received her Master of Arts in English from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in spring 2010. Noel taught English 101 as an Adjunct Professor in the English Department at The Citadel, Charleston, SC. She also worked as a Faculty Fellow in the Krause Center for Leadership and Ethics planning Academic Programs involving Leadership and Ethics. She will complete her Graduate Certificate in Student Affairs in December 2011. Currently, she is the Director of Development and Education at the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation in Charleston, SC.

Gene Walpole (minor) earned a master’s degree in accounting from the University of South Carolina. He is a CPA employed by Elliott Davis LLC in Charleston, SC.

Amy Yarbrough Beckling graduated in 2008 from Duke University School of Nursing with an ABSN. She is currently a Pediatric Nurse at Duke University Hospital and a Clinical Nurse at Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center in Durham, NC.

Class of 2006

In 2008, Brian Barnwell received the Irving Steinberg Award, given to the student who earned the highest grade in Workers Compensation; in 2009, he was inducted into the USC Law School chapter of the American Order of the Coif. He has also served as an articles editor of the South Carolina Law Review in 2008-2009. In spring 2009, Brian graduated Magna Cum Laude (top 5% of his class) from USC Law School and, after passing the Bar, began working as an associate at the law firm of Nelson, Mullins, Riley and Scarborough in Columbia, SC.

Courtney Bell earned her Master in Public Administration from the University of Georgia in May 2008. After completing a two-year Presidential Management Fellowship at the National Institutes of Health outside of Washington, DC, she accepted a position in the Office of the Director of the NIH Clinical Center. In May 2015, Courtney became a management analyst at the National Institutes of Health.

In June 2014, William Brust (minor) started an MA in Teaching ESOL through the TEEMS program at Georgia State University.

Heath Bryson (minor) teaches at Clinton High School.

In May 2008, Katie Benjamin McCann (minor)  earned an MS in Cytology and Biosciences from the Medical University of South Carolina. She worked at the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Currently, she is employed by Coastal Pathology Laboratories as a cytotechnologist and PA.

In 2010, Katy Falk graduated from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN, and then did a one-year residency at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, FL. Currently, she is an optometrist at Dublin Eye Associates in Dublin, GA.

In May 2014, Erin Gaston (minor) received a master’s of divinity and a master’s of arts in practical theology with a concentration in Christian education from Columbia Theological Seminary. Erin was awarded the Columbia Theological Seminary Honor Scholarship.

Since 2006, Elizabeth Holley (minor) has taught 8th-grade English Language Arts at Kennedy Middle School in Aiken, SC. In 2014, she opened her own personalized embroidery business, Sew Southern.

In 2008, Laura Knowles Cavanaugh received her MA in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA, and she also worked as the Managing Editor for the Fuller Writing Center. Currently, she writes the Holistic Body Theology blog and is the office manager at Neurobehavior Services in Pasadena, CA.

Katie Montgomery McIlwain (minor) is the Director of Outreach Ministries at Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Knoxville, TN.

Christina Randall (minor), after graduating from the Medical University of South Carolina, worked as a physician’s assistant at The Children’s Clinic in Lancaster, SC, and since 2011 has been a physician’s assistant at Upstate Medical Rehabilitation in Greenville, SC.

Bryan Ross worked as a Recruiting and Human Resources Assistant at Moelis & Company in New York City, and in 2012 he began working at The Municipal Art Society of New York. In 2012, he also began an MS in City & Regional Planning at the Pratt Institute.

Stephen Speakman (minor) works with Jubilee Partners in Comer, Georgia, teaching English to Burmese refugees. In May 2015, Stephen graduated with his Master of Divinity from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University.

Perry Floyd teaches history at White Knoll High School in Lexington, SC (beginning fall 2008).

Sean Hall is working on his master of divinity degree at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.

Julia Koets graduated from the University of South Carolina with an MFA in Poetry in 2008 and is currently working on a PhD in Creative Writing (Poetry) at the University of Cincinnati. While at USC, she worked at the South Carolina Poetry Initiative and was the poetry editor at the USC’s literary journal, Yemassee. Julia has published several poems, including “For Julia in Little Armenia” in undefined Magazine, “Gentle Corners of the Night” in Euphony, and “Fallen” in Cutthroat. Currently (2009-2010), Julia works near Los Angeles with lower-income youth in an AmeriCorps program called the Academy for Literacy Through the Arts. As part of the program—which organizes, plans, recruits volunteers, etc. for arts-based literacy events—Julia has given several poetry workshops in schools and at community events. She also helps with the monthly arts-based Big Read events, and she’s also mentored two middle and high school-level girls groups. In 2012, Julia’s first book of poetry, Hold Like Owls, was published as the seventh annual winner of the South Carolina Poetry Book Prize; she wrote an essay about the book for Azalea Magazine, which you can read here. On 15 May 2012, her poem “Paper Birds” appeared on Verse Daily.

In The Wall Street Journal (21 Sept. 2005), Cooper Strickland (minor) was recognized as a Wall Street Journal 2005 Student Achievement Award Winner.

Lindy Vogado graduated from Union Theological Seminary and came to work at PC, first as the Interim Director of Church Relations (2009) and then as Director of Campus Ministries (2010).

Beth Allen Tanner teaches English at Summerville High School in Summerville, SC.

Claire Anderson completed her master’s at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Currently, she is an associate producer for 48 Hrs (CBS) in New York City.

Elizabeth Anderson Stansell received her MA in English from Clemson University in 2006. She is currently a lecturer in the Clemson English department, teaching literature and advanced composition. She also coordinates the EnglishOnline program, which trains faculty in developing online courses.

Jessica Blount Wolff works at the Georgia Tech College of Management.

After Paula Brock Maeger completed her MAT from Winthrop University in 2006, she began teaching 10th-grade English Language Arts at Palmetto High School in Williamston, SC.

Ashley Burdette Procter earned her master’s degree in secondary English education at Piedmont College in Demorest, GA. She is employed by Gwinnett County Public Schools as a high school language arts teacher.

Kat Eckart is currently a photography intern with Southern Living at Southern Progress.

Bonnie Glymph Treado worked as a medical office assistant with the Cookeville Regional Medical Center—Cancer Center in Tennessee. In May 2013, she received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (Nurse Practitioner) from the Medical University of South Carolina and is currently an instructor at a local college in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

In January 2011, Philip Hauserman was named vice president of operations for The Ledlie Group, a public relations firm in Atlanta where he’s worked since 2004. According to the company’s official news release, Philip “will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day business of the communications-based consultancy. He will continue to have a lead role in the firm’s crisis communications, media relations, marketing support and event management efforts for clients in legal services, financial services, environmental, healthcare and real estate.”

Lisa Heitzman is finishing an MA in Rhetoric & Composition at Iowa.

Ginny Hrushka teaches English with the Jilin Hua Qiao Foreign Language Institute in Changchun, Jilin China.

Marion Jackson Nelson started the MAT program at Converse College in Fall 2006.

George Mitchell (minor) is attending law school in Miami.

Ryan Nobles graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina and is currently an associate professor and acting physician in the pain management/anesthesiologist clinic at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC.

Erin Pabst Dhand was a financial aid counselor for the Medical University of South Carolina and the Communications Specialist for Alcoa Mt. Holly in Goose Creek, SC. Currently, she is the manager of public relations for the South Carolina State Ports Authority.

Sarah Prince began a Ph.D. in Women’s Studies at Emory University in Fall 2005.

Mary Elizabeth Terry teaches English at JEB Stuart High School in Fairfax County, Virginia. In May 2009 she completed a master’s in Gifted Education.

Class of 2003

Drew Brannon recently received his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Georgia at Athens and is in private practice with the Lowder Group in Greenville, SC (2010).

Emily Cook Heyne is currently ABD in Ph.D. work in Dallas; she began her program in Fall 2005.  While in graduate school, she won third place in The Ruskin Rhetoric Competition for her speech on environmentalism and the liberal arts.  She also presented a paper on Gerard Manley Hopkins at an international Hopkins conference in Denver in April 2005.

Jennifer Dorminey graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law in Athens in 2006. While at UGA, Jennifer was a member of the Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law, and her note entitled “‘Where You Stand Depends on Where You Sit’: Should the United States’ FDA Have Followed the Lead of Great Britain’s MHRA in Banning Antidepressant Drug Use in Children and Adolescents?” was published in the Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law 34.1 (2005). She also received the Notes Editor of the Year Award for 2005-2006. Jennifer returned to her hometown of Tifton, Georgia, as an associate in the law firm of Hall, Booth, Smith, & Slover.

Skye Earls Replogle worked as a paid intern at the Odessa American newspaper in Odessa, Texas, in 2003 as a general assignments reporter and page editor. From 2004-2005, she worked as a reporter, producer, and more for South Carolina ETV on radio and television. The primary shows she worked on were State House Today and ETV Forum. Since 2005, she has been working for the National Geographic Channels. In her time on the Digital Media team, the site won multiple awards, including the 2010 Web Award for Best TV Website by the Web Marketing Association, the 2010 Silver Mark Award in Websites and Microsites for Expedition Granted, and many others. In her current role as Digital Distribution Director, she oversees the digital distribution of shows to Video On Demand, Hulu, iTunes, Netflix and others, and is spearheading the networks’ TV Everywhere authentication initiatives on multiple platforms.

Paige Ellisor-Catoe received her MA and Ph.D. from the University of Georgia in Athens (2009). In Fall 2011, she began a full-time English instructorship at Anderson College, where she taught the first Women’s Literature course ever offered there.

After completing a master’s in Middle School Education at Clemson University in May 2010 (and being named Outstanding Graduate Student of the Year), Amy Elrod begins teaching at Tamassee Salem High School in Salem, SC, in August 2010. She’ll teach English/Literature to the entire 10th and 12th-grade classes, as well as creative writing and public speaking.

After completing an MA in Shakespeare and Theatre at the University of Birmingham Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-Upon-Avon, England, as well as an MA in Teaching Secondary English from Converse College, Emily Grigg taught English at Gaffney High School. In Fall 2009, Emily took a position as a full-time English Instructor at Spartanburg Community College in Spartanburg, SC.

From 2006-2011, Ivey Harrison (minor) worked as the Assistant Director of Admissions at Darlington School in Rome, GA. In 2001, she became the associate director of college counseling at Christ Church Episcopal School in Greenville, SC.

Katie Lenhart is an 8th grade English teacher and coach at the Classical Academy in Colorado; she’s also a graduate student at the University of Colorado.

Ansley McRee is currently the manager of communications at Augusta Preparatory Day School in Georgia.

After graduating PC, Gregg Marshall taught at Blue Ridge School in Charlottesville, VA. In 2010, he joined the faculty at Darlington School in Rome, GA, and began work on an M.A. from The Bread Loaf School of Middlebury College in VT.

Scott Moore graduated in 2009 from the Mary Black School of Nursing at USC Upstate with a bachelor of science in nursing. Currently, he works as a nurse in the emergency room of Greenville Memorial Hospital and serves as the Region 7 coordinator for the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International. As of June 2013, Scott is a Board-certified Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. In 2014, he received the Archibold Scholarship through the National Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence. In August 2015, Scott passed his oral comprehensive exams and is now a Doctoral Candidate in Healthcare Genetics from Clemson University

In October 2012, Mitchell Spearman (minor) became the Director of Development at the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas. In January 2014, Mitchell became the Associate Vice President of Development at Occidental College in Los Angeles, CA.

Jessica Ulstad Stender completed her M.A. in English at Clemson University and has begun a Ph.D. program at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

David Wagner worked as a counselor at Outdoor Therapeutic Program in Cleveland, GA, after graduation. Currently, he is enrolled in Episcopal Seminary (2010).

Jill Walker completed her MFA in creative nonfiction at St. Mary’s College of California. She teaches at Pittsburg Senior High School in Pittsburg, CA.

Amy Kukla received her elementary school teaching certification from the University of Denver. In 2006, she moved to Charlotte, NC, where she works at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library as the Family Literacy Coordinator. In 2010, she began applying to graduate schools for a Master of Library and Information Science.

Anna Beale is the coordinator of Volunteer Programs at Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania.

Murray Galloway Cromer teaches 9th and 12th grade English at Irmo High School.

Sarah Jones Disasa is currently working on her master’s in Speech-Language Pathology at Appalachian State University.

Jeanette DeLoach Florence works as an Organizational Development Specialist (Human Resources) with Sonoco Products.

John Michael Florence, Jr., is a law clerk for circuit court Judge John Milling in Columbia, SC.

Brandon Fralix received his Ph.D. from Drew University. In 2014, he was tenured and promoted to Associate Professor of English at Bloomfield College in New Jersey, where he also serves as the Coordinator of the Writing and Analysis Program.

Griffin Littlejohn works with McNair Law Firm, P.A., in Columbia, SC.

Jennifer Miller is a student at the University of Florida, where she is pursuing an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages; she’s spent three years teaching English in China.

Jonathan Bowling is working on his master’s of Divinity at the San Francisco Theological Seminary.

Adam Carter taught English at Summit Preparatory High School in Redwood City, CA. In 2005, he left Summit to teach at the Jakarta International School in Indonesia. Currently, he is the English department chair at the Lincoln International School in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Kerry Cottingham Hanning is the chair of language arts at Beck Academy in Greenville, SC. She was named the school’s 2011 Teacher of the Year.

Liz Embry Overbeck was a features writer for The Houston Chronicle. Currently, she and her family live in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Daniel Hart was an attorney with Paul, Hastings, Janofsky, and Walker, LLP, in Atlanta, GA. Currently, he practices law with Seyfarth Shaw, LLP, also in Atlanta.

After graduation, Kathryn Owen Hix made a career in corporate communications for eight years (including work as a communications specialist at QS/1 Data Systems and Converse College) and served on non-profit and professional development boards in Upstate SC. She completed a Master of Liberal Arts in English at Converse College in 2006 and currently works as an English Instructor at Greenville Technical College in Greenville, S.C.

Emily Benthall Weathers is an English instructor at Clemson University.

Alicia Weeber received her master’s in Early Childhood Education from the College of Charleston in 2004.  In summer 2010, she began teaching kindergarten for the Department of Defense Dependents Schools in Daegu, Korea.
