Great Taste of Asia’s Chinese Festival Banquet
This last Monday Chinese Club president, Anna Crosby, and several students from China attended Great Taste of Asia’s Chinese Festival Banquet. The purpose of this event was to showcase the similarities between the importance of food in both American and Chinese holiday culture. As students begin to pack up and go home for Thanksgiving, a holiday famed for the good food and company it brings, they also had the opportunity to be treated to authentic Chinese festival food. Each with different symbolism for the Chinese people. We talked about cultural eating and etiquette, and what made both countries unique. It was interesting to hear how different the food can be based on the province you visit in China. The Chinese students that were there talked about the cultural tastes of their provinces, and what was a typical meal for their family.
The food served by Great Taste was amazing and a delicious insight on festival food in China. We even spoke to the Head Chef there, and he talked about how he moved to America and became a cook. The Chinese Club would like to thank Great Taste for hosting us and serving such good food, they were very kind and helpful in learning about Chinese culture.
