Presbyterian College to celebrate Latinx Heritage Month

Every September, PC honors the contributions and rich heritage of those who identify as Latino, Latina, and Latinx in a series of events throughout the month. We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate Latinx rich cultures, ethnicity, and pride. These events are open to all faculty, staff, and students.

Latinx Heritage Month Opening Keynote & Constitution Day Lecture
Wednesday, September 15 | 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Kick off Latinx Heritage Month with an opening keynote and our annual Constitution Day Lecture. The Political Science Department, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and the Office of Religious Life are pleased to welcome poet, author, and professor Javila Avila and his presentation “The Trouble With My Name” to our campus virtually. We will be hosting watch parties of this keynote in Kuhne Auditorium and HP Amphitheater with a live Q& A session with Mr. Avila. Latinx Heritage Month Social Media Campaign
September 15 – October 15 
In honor of Latinx Heritage Month Presby First+ would like to share the experiences of some of our Latinx students. The @presbyfirstgens Instagram page will post quotes from first-gen Latinx students. Quotes will be printed and displayed in Springs until the end of Latinx Heritage Month.

Latinx Heritage Month Fishbowl

Join us for a fishbowl conversation First-Gen Latinx students will share their experiences at PC. Fishbowl is held every Tuesday at 8pm in Neville 122. This event is sponsored by Bluefish in partnership with PC NAACP and Presby First+.

Office of International Programs & Political Science Department Info Session

Join Professor Justin Lance and Professor Daniel Bailey for an info session on a Maymester opportunity to explore the topic of “Immigration Policy & the US Border.” Food will be provided.

Fun Friday’s “Salsa and Skills”
Friday, October 1 | 2 – 4 p.m. | The front of Thomason Library (Rain location: Springs Great Room)
Join the Career Services and Professional Development for an afternoon of dance, food, and a discussion on incorporating intercultural fluency and non-English language skills into career-readiness.

Cultural Exchange Night
Thursday, October 14 | 6 p.m. |  Zoom
Join members of Presby First+, the Multicultural Student Union, and the Spanish Club as they make this popular pastry with origins in Spain and popular Spanish drink. All materials will be provided to make the empanadas but you must register. Look for registration information in Campus Groups soon.
