WHAT YOU’LL STUDY

With a curriculum rich in the humanities, PC’s international studies program gives you cultural, historical, and global insight. It challenges you to analyze and think critically about world events, but also to empathize with others.

The international studies major requires 40 hours of coursework, which you can tailor to your career interests. This broad program is divided into three main categories – Common Core, Thematic Specialization, and Regional Specialization. For Common Core, you’ll choose one eligible course each from economics or business administration, non-US history, and political science. You’ll also select one eligible course in art history, education history, world literature or cinema, music, or religion. Finally, you’ll pick one modern foreign language course – in Spanish, French, or Chinese – above the 2001 level.

For your Thematic Specialization, you’ll select 12 hours of courses from one of three areas. History, Culture and Society courses include art history, geography, music, non-US history, sociology, and world literature. International Business courses include business administration, economics, and Spanish. And International Politics and Diplomacy includes courses in political science, geography, history, and Latin American studies.

Lastly, you’ll focus on a particular area of the globe for your 12 hours of Regional Specialization classes. These regions include Europe and Russia, Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Middle East, and Latin America and the Caribbean.

This degree also requires studying abroad for a semester in a country of your choice. You can apply the courses you take abroad toward your Thematic and Regional Specialization requirements. Your immersive experiences abroad will inform your Senior Capstone in International Studies project – the final element in your degree program.
