  • PC’s physics program was named a “Best Value for the Money” in a nationwide ranking of colleges and universities by College Factual (2019).

WHAT YOU’LL STUDY

During your three years at PC, you will fulfill your general education requirements, which serve as the basis of your liberal arts education. Courses include those in the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities.

As an upperclassman, most or all of your courses will be specific to your physics major. You can expect to take such courses as engineering physics, advanced dynamics, computer science, and more. As a capstone to the major, you’ll complete an independent research project on a topic related to physics or engineering.

Physics courses will be completed at PC, and studies required in the engineering discipline will be completed at the partnership school. Students entering a dual-degree program should be aware of stipulations from other institutions and remain diligent to ensure grades and appropriate courses are acceptable for transfer.

The education you receive will provide the knowledge and skillset to prepare you for employment and graduate school.

CAREERS

Students who hold a dual degree in physics and engineering can find employment in a number of industries, including academia, business, and government. Job opportunities include nuclear engineer and materials scientist, medical physicist, optical engineer, acoustical engineer, and aerospace engineer.

Engineering physicists are in demand, and the profession is enjoying steady job growth. Nationwide, 96 percent of all physics majors obtain employment after graduation.

Physics graduates from PC have been hired in various public and private sector jobs including education, research, medicine, engineering, and more. A bachelor’s degree provides students with the skill set to pursue advanced technical degrees in engineering, business administration, medicine, or law. About half of our students have gone on to master’s and doctoral programs in physics or engineering. Graduate degrees open doors to more opportunities for career advancement or teaching positions in higher education.
