WHAT YOU’LL STUDY

Students in the SEIA major follow a course of study taught by professors who have multiple years of experience working with individuals with exceptionalities. Carefully designed coursework assists majors in gaining extensive knowledge about individuals with disabilities at different age levels, including specific learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and severe disabilities. Courses focus on characteristics, development, etiology, evidence-based learning and behavioral strategies, strategies for positively collaborating with individuals with exceptionalities and their parents/caregivers, advocacy, and legislation supporting individuals with disabilities.

Careers in Special Education

The Special Education Inquiry and Analysis major provides an option for students who desire to work with individuals with exceptionalities in realms other than the school setting. Additionally, the degree provides a solid foundation for students who plan to pursue graduate degrees in related fields such as Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, and Applied Behavior Analysis.
