Presbyterian College is situated in the upstate of South Carolina, with easy access to surrounding cities, beaches, and mountains. While it’s good to know that a short drive will bring you to larger cities, it’s also comforting to know you might not need to travel at all. Most students find themselves so in love with how welcoming the Clinton community is that they don’t feel the need to stray very far. PC offers facilities with advanced technology and student-centered faculty who take pride in teaching their students and having face-to-face interactions with them.

In the Middle of It All
Clinton
You’ll find lots to love about Clinton, S.C., a picturesque small town with a population of under 10,000. Clinton welcomes PC students with an event downtown every fall, and students return to downtown when they venture off campus to frequent the charming shops that are less than a mile away. Students find places to serve and intern in Clinton too, like the Community Garden, the Palmetto Equestrian Therapeutic Riding Program, and the offices of local health care providers.
History buffs love to visit the Battle of Musgrove Mill State Historic Site, and students who like golfing tee off at the Arnold Palmer-inspired Musgrove Mill Golf Course. While there’s a fitness center on the PC campus, some students like to complement their workouts by going to the local CrossFit gym and the Clinton Y.
When it’s time for a bite to eat, Clinton serves up restaurants that you’re probably familiar with, like Arby’s, Zaxby’s, and Waffle House. And you’ll also have your pick of local establishments that PC students prefer, like House of Pizza, Senor Garcia Mexican Restaurant, Steamers, and Freshens at 112, the college-owned student social hub downtown.
Laurens County
Laurens County offers lots of things to do for PC students too. PC’s home county is full of history and charm, and both are on display on the City of Laurens Downtown Square. Cute shops and restaurants surround a courthouse that was built in the 1880’s. You could admire the architecture all day, but you don’t want to miss out on fine eateries like Rootimentary (with its Southern-inspired cuisine), Roma’s (known for its authentic Italian and Greek cuisine), or Tacos & Bla Bla Bla (which serves up tacos and bla bla bla).
You can’t talk about restaurants in Laurens County without mentioning Whiteford’s Giant Burger. The Laurens County landmark has been serving its American-style cuisine for decades. Favorites like Chick-Fil-A are also a short drive away for PC students.
PC students who love the outdoors know that outdoor activities are a short drive away in Laurens County. Lake Greenwood is only 20 miles from campus and provides bass fishing and boating year-round. Lake Greenwood State Park offers shoreline campsites and nature trails.
Lake Rabon and Sumter National Forest are even closer options for PC students who love the outdoors. PC students can venture to Lake Rabon in Laurens seven days a week from sunrise to sunset to boat and fish. Located in Whitmire, Sumter National Forest offers biking, hiking, boating, hunting and equestrian opportunities.
South Carolina
Take a glance at the map of South Carolina, and you’ll see that PC students are in the middle of everything that South Carolina and North Carolina offer. Greenville, S.C., makes lots of lists like the Coolest Small Cities in the U.S. and the 30 Most Charming Small-Town Downtowns. PC students take advantage of the proximity to Greenville by making the short drive from campus. Two of South Carolina’s other large cities are also within a short drive of the PC campus: Spartanburg is only 35 miles away, and Columbia is only 60 miles away.
And, if students want to enjoy the beach or mountains, both are within a short drive too. Charleston is about two and a half hours away, while Myrtle Beach is less than a four-hour drive from PC. Students can get to the mountains of Asheville, N.C., in under two hours.
