An insider look at PC’s win over Furman University

On the evening of September 13th, the Blue Hose football team took on the Furman Paladins at Bailey Memorial Stadium.  After four quarters of strategic plays and team collaboration, the Blue Hose conquered the Paladins with a final score of 10-7.

HappyAll Blue Hose, both players and fans, left the stadium full of PC Pride as this is the first time in 35 years of football that PC has beat Furman. Not only is this win significant but it also shows just how far the team has grown. Coach Harold Nichols states, “I’m very happy for our players. It is validation for all of their hard work. This win is for all of us to enjoy – Faculty, Staff, and Alumni. All the former players that have been in the locker room can enjoy this win. This win in a culmination of the process we have been through transitioning to Division I. The commitment that Presbyterian College has made is significant and hopefully we can build on the momentum from this win.”

The week leading up to the game was full of hard work but it is during each late night and early morning practice that the team comes together as family. “We may not have the biggest or the fastest team here at PC but what we have is each other. We are a family. After playing this game, it is evident that we have a team that like Coach Nichols says, is a team full of guys that are playing for something greater than themselves,” states player Kris Humphreys.

Every player contributed to the victory and it is a memory they will carry with them forever. “Having the opportunity to be a part of the win was special to me. It felt great winning against a team like Furman,” says player Heys McMath.

Within minutes after the game, the Bluehose Sports Facebook account posted the news and it wasn’t long before the post achieved over 300 likes and almost 100 shares – true PC Pride! The 2014 season is off to a great start and students, faculty, staff and alumni look forward to cheering on our Blue Hose athletes and celebrating future victories.
