Presbyterian College recognized student research on April 24 during the annual Honors Day Symposium. The students presenting range from freshmen with exceptional papers to seniors making their honors research or capstone presentations, culminations of four years of intense academic labor.

Dr. Robert Freymeyer, chair of PC’s Sociology Department, began the Honors Day Symposium 12 years ago. in an effort to recognize the quality research on campus, “and that we just needed to set aside a time to celebrate that good work.”

Following the trend of recent years, this symposium will set a new record for student and campus participation. “The number of participants has really increased substantially this year.”

Thursday’s event marked the second year the School of Pharmacy is participating in the Honors Day Symposium. Dr. Freymeyer says the school is making a strong effort to integrate the pharmacy program into the celebration.

Dr. Freymeyer is proud of the students participating in the program, noting that the PC student body is doing excellent work across disciplines. In that vein, he wants to make sure people know that PC’s tradition of excellent academic performance existed long before the Honors Day Symposium began. “We’re not creating something new. We’re honoring what we’re doing everyday.”

The research presentations are available in abstract form.

Founded in 1880, Presbyterian College is a Carnegie One liberal arts college and is fully accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The institution confers B.A. and B.S. degrees in 32 courses of study, including music, and nine pre-professional programs including pre-law, pre-med, pre-pharmacy and pre-theological. In May, the School of Pharmacy will graduate its first PharmD candidates.
