Presbyterian College to host pianist Gregory Thompson

Gregory Thompson Presbyterian College recital

Presbyterian College will host pianist Gregory Thompson for a recital at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29 in Edmunds Hall. The Recital will feature works by Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Chopin, and Hailstork. The recital is free and open to the public.

Thompson has been praised by New York critic Peter Davies for his “intuitive feeling for phrase shapes, how to make a melodic line sing, and how to inflect it with delicate rubato effects.” He made his New York at Carnegie Recital Hall and has performed at Carnegie as a solo artist on several other occasions.

He made his orchestra debut as winner of the prestigious concerto competition at the Peabody Conservatory where he performed the Liszt Second Piano Concerto under the baton of Maestro Frederik Prausnitz. He performed Franck’s Symphonic Variations with the Baltimore Symphony the next year at the invitation under the direction of Maestro William Henry curry.

Thompson has also appeared in concerto as well as solo and collaborative performances in France, Austria, Texas, Maryland, North Carolina, Georgia, New York, and South Carolina. In addition to his appearances as a solo artist, Thompson is well known as a collaborative artist, having performed with world-renowned singers in recital.

Thompson completed his bachelor’s degree at Limestone College, a master’s at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of South Carolina. His teaching career has included professorships in South Carolina, Ohio, and North Carolina.
