Requirements & Course Descriptions

Major in Political Science

Students who major in political science must complete 33 hours, including

• PLSC 201, 202, 205, and 440;
• three hours chosen from American Politics courses:
  • PLSC 301, 304, 305, 306, 307, 309, 311, 312, 313, 314, 316, 317, 319 or PLSC/RELG 320;
• three hours selected from Political Theory courses:
  • PLSC 322, PLSC/PHIL 324, PLSC/PHIL 326, or PLSC/PHIL 327;
• three hours selected from International Relations/Comparative Politics courses:
  • PLSC 331, 332, 339, 342, 352, 355, 361, 362, 380, 387, PLSC/ECON 341, 350, or PLSC/SOC 370;
• Select 12 hours from Political Science electives

Minor in Political Science

The minor in political science requires completion of 18 hours, including PLSC 201, 202, and 12 additional hours of PLSC electives.

Minor in Africana Studies

The minor in Africana studies must select 18 hours from AFST 201, 458; ENGL 2205; PLSC 301, 361; PLSC/SOC 370, 312; SOC 362, 364, 366; THEA 2103.

Minor in Criminal Justice

The minor in Criminal Justice requires completion of 18 hours, including CRIM 302 / PLSC 302; CRIM 309 / SOC 309; PHIL 314; CRIM 444; and 9 additional hours from CHEM 345; CSC 2600; PHIL 330; PLSC 210 / PRLW 2100; PLSC 305; PSYC 2050 / SOC 201; PSYC 2070; SOC 206.
