Steve M. ’84 and Gayla Marshall ’85 Smith

Steve and Gayla Smith are both proud alumni of Presbyterian College. Steve, a four-year basketball letterman and three-year captain, graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts in business administration. Gayla graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in psychology. She was a cheerleader for the football and basketball teams during her four years at PC.

The Smiths reside in Charlotte, North Carolina, where Steve is president and owner of Swagelok North Carolina | East Tennessee. The company is a distributor of premium Swagelok fluid system components. Gayla spent the early years of her career teaching and then worked as an interior designer after moving to Charlotte. She now serves as a trusted advisor on the board of Swagelok NCETN.

Steve and Gayla are both loyal Blue Hose supporters. They can be found at most home football games tailgating with old friends and, many times, with potential PC recruits and their families. Steve has served on the Alumni Board as well as on the search committee for a PC head basketball coach. Steve and Gayla are longtime supporters of the Scotsman Club and continue to support the Steve and Gayla Smith Athletic Scholarship Fund.

The Smiths have two children: Ashton is a 2010 graduate of UNC at Chapel Hill. Marshall is a 2013 graduate of PC and married to PC class of 2013 alumna Lauren Lefeber Smith. Steve and Gayla will celebrate their 33rd wedding anniversary this summer.
